If anyone would ask me which is the best beach I have visited in Goa I would reply the Grandmothers hole beach. Grandmothers Hole beach lies 3 kms. away from the city of Vasco near the Marmagoa Port Trust housing colony at the Vasco Sada Headland area. Located close to the beach is the coastal defense battery of the Indian Navy. The beach can be reached by personal vehicle maybe a car or a bike or local buses which ply from Vasco to the area at regular interval. Parking is available on the top of the cliff and on crossing a small park, you’ll have to make your way down 222 steps to get to this picturesque little sandy strip. I actually counted the steps on the calf-strained walk up the steps again. So unfit!

Steps that lead to the beach

The entrance to the beach is next to the Japanese garden. A flight of steps lead down to the beach along a winding path which goes through a stone arch at the base of the cliffs. If you have older people amongst you, it’s better to let them enjoy the view from the park on top. The path down to the beach a small path branches off to the right and leads to the temple that of Shree Durgamata Shiv .As the beach is one that not many tourists know that's why the beach has less people visiting. But once someone visit the place, that person will love to visit that place again and again.

The beach is a perfect picnic spot. You can enjoy the beauty and peace of this beautiful beach almost all to your self. The Japanese garden above the beach is a good spot to have a picnic with the shade of trees above you and the green grass beneath your feet. In the evening the view of sun meeting the beach  from the garden is the best view anyone can see.

Carry your own food and drinks as there is not much one can find to eat or drink at the beach. You can go fishing on the rocks of the beach once the scorching noon time passes. Also the nearby temple of Shree Durgamata Shiv can be visited and of course the Grandmother's Hole cave nearby should not be missed.

Picturesque Grandmother’s Hole Beach is among the most lively beach in South Goa.It is the perfect place for complete relaxation. The cliffs surrounding it, a tiny white cross that’s visible from anywhere on the beach and the sound of the crashing waves and screeching birds makes pretty spectacular. The greenery around the shores have a great influence in making the beach so beautiful.
